Inventor relies on Inspiration to see the big picture "There's more to inventing than just coming up with a great idea," says Hugh Brydges, the Virginia-based inventor of StarChase, a tagging and tracking system used in law enforcement. "You also have to get it to the market." He used Inspiration to map out and organize the various steps required to bring his idea to the market, including obtaining funding, testing the product and market research. Already familiar with the invention process--his first invention to market was a mooring system for boats--Brydges needed a way to see the big picture and still keep track of the details of his inventions. Inspiration helped him visualize the entire process and yet concentrate on individual aspects of the project. For example, while developing the idea for StarChase, which is comprised of a sticky GPS-enabled device shot out of a paintball-like gun that adheres to a fleeing vehicle and enables enforcement agents to track and apprehend suspects in a safe environment without resorting to dangerous and potentially lethal high-speed chases, Brydges knew the idea would need to be field tested by a reputable group. Using Inspiration, he brainstormed possible solutions and came up with the idea to partner with Scientific Applications International Corporation, a research entity both close to home and highly reputable. This same process was repeated as he was looking for funding sources; he used Inspiration to brainstorm and organize research about various companies who might be interested in the technology, but who would use it for non-competitive purposes. Through these processes using Inspiration, he was able to take the invention to the next level. "Inspiration allows me to stay on the creative side," says Brydges. "I can get all my thoughts down as quickly as possible, and then come back later to flesh out the details." With several successful inventions under his belt, Brydges now consults with other fledgling inventors, helping them to realize their dreams and achieve success through practical solutions and suggestions. He uses Inspiration to help his clients see the whole picture and follow a customized process to get a product to the shelf. Brydges hopes one day to write a book for inventors and use Inspiration to outline concepts for the book.
