This Kidspiration activity can be used to practice counting while celebrating Valentine’s Day. The process of moving hearts into bins helps students connect numerals (or number words) to the quantities that they represent.

Adaptations:
If students are practicing their number words, modify the template by changing the numerals above each heart to number words.
For older students, hearts in the symbol palette can stand for something other than 1. For example, each heart can have a value of 2. The template can then be modified to include numerals above each heart that are multiples of 2.
