In this Kidspiration activity, students identify numbers as represented by base ten blocks, and then use blocks to build the number in a different way. The activity develops elementary students’ early algebra skills with the notion of equivalence. It also helps students build an understanding of place value as they create equivalent representations of two and three-digit numbers. The activity contains 6 pages and can be extended or shortened as needed.
Adaptations:
*Work with thousands by incorporating the thousands block, or modify the activity to include only tens and ones.
*Students can add additional pages and create their own representations.
