This InspireData lesson helps elementary and early middle school students strengthen their graphical interpretation skills through analysis of pie plots, bar charts, stack plots and Venn plots.

The activity uses the Pets Survey database found in InspireData (InspireData Starter Screen>Databases>Mathematics>Pets Survey). Analyze the provided sample data or make the activity more engaging by using the database template and the Survey/e-Survey tools to collect student data.

Lesson Options:
• Use the Slide Sorter to make graphs ahead of time. Use the Notes Area to record questions about the graphs, and have students answer those questions (the attached document provides sample graphs and questions).
• Provide students with the questions and ask that they create graphs that address the question. They can use the Notes area to record their answers to questions.
