Description :

This InspireData activity can be used as students are learning about function tables and graphs. Each table contains a field of “IN” values, a field of “OUT” values, and a rule. Students can complete missing values in the table based on the rule, and then switch to plot view to create an axis plot of IN vs. OUT. The template contains several examples and can be adapted to meet your needs.
Some ideas for adaptations and extensions:
• Have students expand each table to include more ordered pairs.
• Create a table that is partially completed. Then have students identify the rule and complete the table.
• Discuss similarities among the graphs of each table of values. If there was a mistake in the table, what would you notice about the graph? (try an example).
• Ask students to make up their own rule and create a table of values that corresponds with that rule.
• Include negative values in the table.
• Use other rules, such as “multiply each value by itself” to expose students to exponential functions and graphs.

This activity was created using InspireData 1.5, which must be installed to open the file. Download a 30-day free trial at href="http://www.inspiration.com/freetrial">www.inspiration.com/freetrial or if you have InspireData 1.0, download a complementary upgrade.
