After reading the book or watching the film (don't forget you can embed the QuickTime video) of Martin's Big Words, discuss the words in the diagram. This can be done as a whole class or individually. Use the Word Guide to look up the definitions and find synonyms for each of the big words. In the outline mode or by adding a note use each word in a meaningful sentence. Students could also go to the outline mode and put the words in order to form a paragraph. Don't forget to write a topic sentence too. Finally publish the writing for a completed project. As an extension to this activity have students complete the Big Words Template.
