What is a hashtag?
A Twitter hashtag is a keyword that is used in a search similar to a webtag. It’s a way of categorizing tweets under a certain word or phrase. These tags can be added anywhere in a tweet by simply placing a “hash” mark, commonly known as the “pound” symbol (#), in front of a word.
Twitter allows you to search for hashtags, which helps you to follow all tweets made with a particular tag. Hashtags are most often used during Twitter chats or at conferences, but also just to group similar tweets around a chat, event or topic. To read more about using hashtags, go to the Twitter support page.
