Critical Thinking and Changing: March Themes at Inspiration

“The history of the past is but one long struggle upward to equality,” as Elizabeth Cady Stanton once said.

At Inspiration we understand that learning can be a struggle for many students. Like the stories of women and minorities, at times ideas are buried beneath the surface, just waiting for the proper vehicle to bring them to light.

Ideas are made great through the power of focused thought, and thus Critical Thinking is our March social media theme. Through templates, examples, articles and more, we’ll be offering up a virtual toolbelt filled with ways to aid students in the activities of thinking and analysis. Like our Inspiration Archetypal Themes mind map template, designed to stimulate higher-level engagement with a text:

In addition to this broader learning theme, we’re also celebrating Women’s History Month throughout the entirety of March. Some of today’s students may not know of a time where American women could not vote, or own property. Thus it is important for us to not only reflect upon the inequalities of the past but see how society has changed over time. International Women’s Day (March 8th) is a perfect time to ask students, “How do women’s lives around the world differ from each other?” One Inspiration user has already harnessed the power of our templates to compare two international women: Golda Meir v. Indira Gandhi.

What will your students create as they explore the world of women’s history? Whatever they create, don’t forget that can their diagrams can be transformed into text outlines–that preserve all the thought, effort and organization that went into the original visuals.

Common Core State Standard SL 6.2 requires that students be able to “Interpret information presented in diverse media and formats, and explain how it contributes to a topic, text or issue under study.” We seek to not only provide tools to help students think and interpret, but encouragement as the struggle turns into success.
